About Me

Hi there, welcome! My name is Ye Zhang, I’m originally from Beijing, China, I spent the past 11 years living in Nova Scotia, Canada – my second hometown, and now I live in Phoenix, Arizona.

I’m a Somatic Educator in the tradition of Thomas Hanna, a certified yoga instructor and a professional electrical engineer, I like to call myself a movement explorer. I’m constantly exploring the world of movements with an open mind. I love moving, watching people moving and listening to our internal universe moving. I’m fascinated with our amazing body and the relationship between our brain and body, I see the body as “scientific art”. I’m always looking for the most natural and efficient way to move – how to use the least amount of effort to do the “same” movement! And this is also my focus in teaching.

I continued studies in Restorative, Yin, Pre and Post-natal yoga and Yoga Thrive (therapeutic yoga for cancer survivors through University of Calgery).

I’m also very passionate about the somatic field – Hanna Somatics Education (HSE), Body-Mind Centering (BMC), Franklin Method, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and biomechanics. I have been travelling through North America to study with inspiring teachers. I had studied functional anatomy with Eric Franklin (founder of Franklin Method), Dynamic Observation with Amy Mathews (co-author of Yoga Anatomy), numerous BMC workshops with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (founder of BMC).

I’m currently studying Embodied Anatomy with Amy Mathews and enrolling in the 3-year training of Hanna Somatics Education at Novato Institute since August 2014.

“All sickness is homesickness; being in our body is being at home.”

Check out my Blogs page for articles and tips that I believe are the best for our body.

Besides teaching, I also love taking photos, see what I see.
